FOOTBALL - Coventry Sphinx held to draw at Bourne Town

Aaron Sutcliffe 28th Oct, 2025   0

COVENTRY Sphinx saw their winless run on the road stretch to four matches following a 1-1 draw at Bourne Town.

An early goal from Jack Downes put Sphinx ahead only for Robbie Ellis to draw the home side level just past the hour mark at Abbey Lawn.

The result means Coventry sit eighth in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, two points outside of the play-off places.

Sphinx broke the deadlock on 18 minutes when Kyle Carey jinked past his man and delivered a low cross into the box from the left which Downes turned home at the near post.

However, Bourne equalised on 61 minutes as Ellis finished at the second attempt when one-on-one with Sphinx goalkeeper Charlie Woods.

Coventry host Basford United on Saturday, November 1 with kick-off at 3pm at the Cameron Slater Arena.
