COVENTRY Sphinx drew away from home for the first time since November after playing out a stalemate with bottom club AFC Rushden and Diamonds.
Chances were at a premium throughout as Sphinx picked up another crucial point against an in-form Diamonds side at Hayden Road.
The result means Sphinx sit 16th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, six points above the relegation zone.
Sphinx goalkeeper Keelan Fallows held an early shot before the visitors almost took the lead when a defensive header just evaded the top corner.
Rushden goalkeeper George Rose then comfortably saved Jac Redhead’s low shot before the Diamonds stopper gathered at the feet of Tyler Haddow with the Sphinx man just unable to control Matty Shipman’s superb through ball.
The visitors remained on top after the break as Shipman forced Rose into a fine save with his feet before Fallows made a similar stop to deny Dylan Wilson at the other end.
More chances came and went for Sphinx as Redhead fired over from inside the box under pressure before the same player went close soon after from a well-worked throw-in routine.
However, after Shipman headed wide late on, Sphinx had to settle for a point
Coventry are next in action at home to Loughborough Dynamo on Tuesday, February 6 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Sphinx Industrial Supplies Arena.
