COVENTRY Sphinx lost top spot following a narrow 1-0 defeat at Loughborough Students.
Sphinx slipped to back-to-back defeats at Loughborough Stadium as Tobenna Ikegwuonu’s first-half goal proved decisive.
The result means Coventry drop to fourth in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, two points behind leaders Rugby Borough with a game in-hand.
The game’s only goal came on 39 minutes when Ikegwuonu finished Alexander Spiteri’s whipped cross into the box.
Coventry are next in action against Belper Town on Tuesday, September 30 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Cameron Slater Arena.
