COVENTRY Sphinx suffered a 4-0 defeat away at high-flying Corby Town on their return to action for the first time since New Year’s Day.
A hat-trick from Fletcher Toll and further strike from Tendai Daire condemned Sphinx to defeat at Steel Park.
The result means Coventry sit 17th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, seven points above the relegation zone.
Corby broke the deadlock on eight minutes when a Sphinx player tripped Toll in the box and he picked himself up to score from the penalty spot.
And Toll struck again on 23 minutes with a tap in from close range after Charlie Woods kept out Daire’s initial header only for the ball to drop kindly into the scorer’s path.
Corby all but sealed the points six minutes later as Daire forced the ball home after Sphinx failed to deal with a corner from the right.
And Toll completed the scoring and his hat-trick on 75 minutes when some miscommunication saw Kyle Burke head the ball over Woods and the striker finished into an empty net.
Coventry are next in action against AFC Rushden and Diamonds on Tuesday, January 21 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Hayden Road.
