COVENTRY Sphinx suffered relegation from the Northern Premier League Midlands following defeat against Sutton Coldfield Town.
Sphinx saw their three-year stay in the division come to an end following a 3-1 defeat against Sutton at the Cameron Slater Arena.
A stunning goal from Ayo Lekuti put the visitors ahead at the break before Reece Gibson doubled Sutton’s lead just past the hour mark.
Sphinx halved the deficit seven minutes from time only for Ryan Shaw to seal the points for Sutton at the death before the same player saw red minutes later.
Results elsewhere meant Coventry needed at least a draw to keep their survival hopes alive with Sphinx unable to secure the necessary result.
A run of 10 games without a win ultimately led to Coventry’s relegation despite a change of manager.
Sphinx sacked long-serving boss John Woodward in January with the club one point clear of the relegation zone at the time.
A number of staff members and players departed Sphinx following the news of Woodward’s sacking.
Brothers Ryan and Joe Conneely replaced Woodward in the Cameron Slater Arena dugout.
However, the pair have managed just four wins in 17 matches since taking charge.
A Sphinx club statement read: “This result confirms our relegation from the Northern Premier League Midlands.
“It’s a tough moment, but we want to thank everyone for their incredible support over the past three seasons ans for sharing every achievement along the way.
“Our players have given their heart and soul in every single game, fighting for the badge with everything they have.
“This setback won’t define us. We regroup, we rebuild and we rise again.
“Coventry Sphinx will be back stronger, hungrier and ready for the next chapter.”
Coventry are next in action against Long Eaton United on Saturday, April 18 with kick-off at 3pm at the Cameron Slater Arena.
