COVENTRY Sphinx returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory away at Lichfield City.
Sphinx responded to successive defeats in the FA Cup and FA Trophy respectively by remaining unbeaten in the league.
Goals from Harvey Smith and Kyle Carey earned Sphinx the points at the Trade Tyre Community Stadium.
The result means Coventry sit fourth in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, one point behind joint leaders Belper Town.
Sphinx broke the deadlock after just 10 minutes as Smith unleashed a stunning half-volley into the net from 25-yards out via the underside of the crossbar.
And the visitors doubled their lead on 27 minutes when Carey curled a sublime effort into the top right corner of the goal from distance.
Lichfield halved the deficit on the stroke of half time as John Mills finished past Charlie Woods from inside the six-yard box after Sphinx failed to deal with a cross from the right.
Sphinx substitute Danny Monger saw red late on as the visitors held on to claim a fourth win from six league matches this season.
Coventry travel to Wellingborough Town on Tuesday, September 16 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Dog and Duck Ground.
