COVENTRY Sphinx moved top of the Northern Premier League Midlands table with a 3-1 victory away at Sutton Coldfield Town.
Sphinx maintained their perfect start to the campaign courtesy of goals from Matty Shipman, Matty Bowman and Djibril Diedhiou at Coles Lane.
The result lifts Sphinx to the top of the NPL Midlands table on goal difference after two matches.
Coventry broke the deadlock after just nine minutes when Shipman headed in a corner from the right from close range.
And the visitors doubled their lead on 21 minutes as Bowman rode a challenge on the edge of the penalty area before coolly finding the left corner of the goal.
Sutton Coldfield halved the deficit on 78 minutes when Zazi-Bope Nehemie Zazi flicked Jayden Campbell’s initial effort past Sphinx goalkeeper Charlie Woods.
However, substitute Diedhiou sealed the points for Sphinx on 87 minutes when he finished through the legs of Sutton goalkeeper Paul Hathaway late on.
Coventry are next in action against Dudley Town in the FA Cup on Saturday, August 16 with the kick-off at 3pm at the Cameron Slater Arena.
