COVENTRY Sphinx lost 5-1 away at title-hopefuls Anstey Nomads and still need at least one point to secure their place in the division next season.

Sphinx equalised early in the first half through Joe Pursey’s goal only for Anstey to score four goals without reply to seal the points at Cropston Road.

The result means Coventry sit 16th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, five points clear of the relegation zone with two games left to play.

Anstey broke the deadlock on nine minutes when Brad Wilson headed in from a corner only for Pursey to draw Sphinx level six minutes later with a bullet header from Finlay Shorrock’s excellent cross.

However, the home side reclaimed the lead on 27 minutes as Zayn Hakeem stooped to head the ball past Keelan Fallows.

And Anstey extended their lead on the hour mark when Corey Armeni finished well on the volley to leave Sphinx with a mountain to climb.

The hosts sealed the points two minutes later as Kyle Tomlin collected a pass in behind the Sphinx defence before flicking the ball past Fallows with the outside of his boot.

And the home side ensured Sphinx would suffer back-to-back 5-1 defeats when Nyle Blake found the net after winning the ball back on the edge of the visitors’ penalty area.

Coventry are next in action at home to Boldmere St Michaels on Saturday, April 20 with kick-off at 3pm at the Sphinx Industrial Supplies Arena.
