COVENTRY Sphinx saw their winless in the league stretch to five matches following a 3-2 home defeat against struggling Lye Town.
Sphinx led courtesy of Jordan Hayward’s strike only for Lye to score three goals in the space of nine first-half minutes to leave the home side stunned.
Substitute Roan Newey reduced the deficit in the second half but Coventry were unable to find an equaliser at the Sphinx Industrial Supplies Arena.
The result means Sphinx sit 17th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, two points above the relegation zone.
Coventry broke the deadlock on 23 minutes after Lye allowed Charlie Woods’ long kick up field to bounce and Hayward’s shot proved too powerful for visiting goalkeeper George Barrett.
However, Lye drew level just three minutes later when Joe Palmer finished from a tight angle inside the box.
And the visitors completed the turnaround two minutes later as the ball ricocheted off a Sphinx defender into the path of Lewis Wright who produced an emphatic finish past Woods.
Lye stretched their lead on 35 minutes when the ball fell kindly to Dan Tozer in the box and he forced a shot into the net through a crowd of bodies.
The home side eventually reduced the deficit on 69 minutes as Lye cleared the ball straight to Newey who fired a low effort into the bottom right corner from 20-yards out.
Coventry are next in action against Hinckley LRFC on Saturday, November 30 with kick-off at 3pm at Leicester Road Stadium.
