COVENTRY Sphinx suffered a third straight league defeat after losing 2-1 against league leaders Belper Town.
Sphinx fell behind to Jacob Fenton’s early goal only for Daniele Reka to equalise for Coventry just past the half-hour mark at the Cameron Slater Arena.
However, Ioan Evans put the visitors back in front on the stroke of half time with Sphinx unable to find a leveller after the break.
Sphinx had Kyle Carey sent off on 75 minutes while Belper also finished the game with 10-men after Jack Broadhead saw red in injury time.
The result means Coventry sit fourth in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, four points behind unbeaten league leaders Belper.
Belper broke the deadlock on 14 minutes when Fenton drove a shot across the face of goal and into the net.
Sphinx drew level on 36 minutes as Reka fired home from close range after the Belper goalkeeper failed to claim a cross from the left.
However, the visitors reclaimed the lead before the break when Evans nodded in from close range following a corner from the left.
A heated second half saw both Carey and Broadhead sent off with Sphinx unable to find an equaliser.
Coventry are next in action against Racing Club Warwick on Tuesday, October 7 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Townsend Meadow.
