COVENTRY Sphinx missed the chance to move further clear of the relegation zone following a heavy 4-1 home defeat against Wellingborough Town.

An own goal put Sphinx ahead past the half-hour mark only for Connor Tomlinson to draw Wellingborough level before the break at the Cameron Slater Arena.

And Will Jones put the visitors ahead just three minutes into the second half to complete the turnaround.

Jones scored his second of the game on 81 minutes before Tomlinson completed the scoring from the penalty spot four minutes from time.

The result means Sphinx sit 16th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, four points clear of the relegation zone.

Coventry are next in action against Bourne Town on Saturday, March 7 with kick-off at 3pm at the Cameron Slater Arena.
