LEO Brown scored a debut goal as Coventry Sphinx surrendered a two-nil lead to draw 2-2 with unbeaten high flyers Anstey Nomads.
Brown struck just two minutes into his Sphinx debut before Matty Shipman doubled Coventry’s lead before the break at the Sphinx Industrial Supplies Arena.
However, Anstey reduced the deficit early in the second half through Luis Rose before the same player netted from the penalty spot to rescue a point for the visitors.
And the result means Coventry sit 16th in the Northern Premier League Midlands table, three points clear of the relegation zone.
Sphinx made a blistering start and took the lead after just 55 seconds as Brown, on loan from Alvechurch, powered a shot through Anstey goalkeeper Conrad Logan and into the net.
And Brown then teed up Shipman for Sphinx’s second goal on 23 minutes as the on-loan striker recovered the ball in the Anstey box before squaring for Shipman who finished into an empty net.
However, the visitors reduced the deficit on 48 minutes as Rose slotted home at the back post as Anstey made the perfect start to the second period.
Sphinx thought they had restored their two-goal lead soon after when Brown chipped the ball into the corner only for a late offside flag to cut the Coventry celebrations short.
And Brown then hit the crossbar just before the hour mark after he was played in behind the Anstey defence by Shipman.
Anstey made Sphinx pay for that missed chance on 70 minutes after the visitors won a penalty for a foul by Finlay Shorrock and Rose stepped up to convert the resulting spot kick.
And Coventry keeper Keelan Fallows made a crucial save at the death to ensure Sphinx went home with a share of the spoils in an entertaining draw.
Sphinx are next in action away at Walsall Wood on Saturday, November 11 with kick-off at 3pm at the John Sylvester Stadium.
