COVENTRY United Women were denied their first point of the season after the Red and Greens suffered a 3-2 defeat at Blackburn Rovers Ladies.
Despite goals from Meesha Dudley-Jones and Anna Wilcox, Saffron Jordan’s early penalty and a brace from Farah Crompton condemned the visitors to defeat at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium.
The result means Coventry remain bottom of the Barclays Women’s Championship table without a point from their opening six matches.
Lee Burch’s side made a disastrous start as Wilcox fouled Crompton in the box which allowed Jordan to open the scoring from the penalty spot after just four minutes.
However, United equalised on 17 minutes when Dudley-Jones looped a stunning effort into the goal from 25-yards out.
Parity was restored for all of eight minutes as Crompton collected a pass before driving into the penalty area and dinking an effort over United goalkeeper Eleanor Heeps.
And Crompton doubled her tally for the game on 52 minutes when she picked out the bottom left corner from Millie Chandarana’s pass.
United responded again on 59 minutes when Wilcox scrambled the ball home after Blackburn failed to clear their lines.
Coventry are next in action at home to Lewes on Saturday, October 30 with kick-off at 3pm at Butts Park Arena.
