FOOTBALL - Ellis Simms hopes Coventry City can 'bounce back' from Charlton draw

ELLIS Simms hopes Coventry City can ‘bounce back’ following a draw against Charlton Athletic on New Year’s Day.

Simms ended a run of six games without a goal by opening the scoring at the Valley only for Joe Rankin-Costello to bring Charlton level after the break.

The striker has now scored eight goals in the Championship this season, two more than he managed in the entirety of the previous campaign.

And Simms hopes the Sky Blues can bounce back from the result with City now winless in their last two league matches.

Simms said: “It’s always nice to score so early in the game and I’m happy to get off the mark in the New Year.

“As a collective, it would have been nice to take the three points home.

“We got a point in the end and there’s another game in a few days time. We need to bounce back and hopefully get the win there.

“Whenever [the manager] makes changes, everyone needs to adapt and listen, there’s little tweaks you need to put into a game playing a new system.

“In the end we take the point. It’s not a loss so we can build on it in the next game.”

Coventry still hold an eight-point lead at the top of the Championship table.

And Simms stressed the need for he and his teammates to remain positive despite some recent setbacks.

Simms added: “The games are every three or four days so we need to recover well.

“We don’t need to be too down. When you’re at the top of the league, you’re used to winning.

“When you don’t win a game sometimes it can feel like a loss.

“Coming to Charlton and taking a point, it’s a difficult place to come.

“The games come quick and fast, you can’t dwell on it and just have to remain focused.”

Coventry are next in action against Birmingham City on Sunday, January 4 with kick-off at 12pm at St Andrew’s.
