FOOTBALL - Ellis Simms neved doubted his ability after rediscovering scoring touch at Coventry City

ELLIS Simms insists he never doubted his ability after rediscovering his scoring touch ahead of Coventry City’s fixture against Blackburn Rovers.

Simms has scored from the bench in each of Coventry’s last two league games against Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday respectively.

And the striker insists he kept believing in himself despite ending last season on a run of 13 games without a goal.

Simms said: “As a striker you’re not always going to be scoring and it’s in those moments when you’ve got to keep your head.

“You’ve got to do the other bits, the hold-up play, keep making the runs and keep believing in yourself.

“And eventually it will come. That’s been by mindset. Throughout my career I’ve always scored goals.

“In the back of my mind I don’t need to worry too much because I know eventually I’m going to score.

“I believe in my ability. If I get a chance, I’m going to score. You’ve got to remain calm and keep going.”

Simms ended his goal drought in the Championship when scoring in Coventry’s dominant win at Millwall at the start of October.

The goal marked his first in the second tier since netting a brace against Wednesday in February earlier this year.

And Simms wants to keep improving under the tutelage of Sky Blues head coach Frank Lampard.

Simms added: “The one-to-one [with Frank Lampard] is very helpful.

“The coaching staff after training will work with you on a specific part of your game for 10 or 15 minutes.

“When it’s the right time, we’ll do some finishing or tactical work.

“You’ve got to keep listening to the advice and take it on board and you’ll improve.

“I just want to score goals and keep improving.”

Coventry host Blackburn on Saturday, October 18 with kick-off at 3pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
