AN EMOTIONAL Frank Lampard spoke of his pride after guiding Coventry City to promotion to the Premier League.
Lampard ended Coventry’s 25-year wait for a top flight return following a 1-1 draw at Blackburn Rovers.
A late goal from Bobby Thomas secured the point City needed to make mathematically sure of promotion.
Lampard has guided Coventry to promotion in his first full season in charge at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
And the Sky Blues boss gave an emotional interview to Sky Sports after securing his promotion as a manager.
Lampard told Sky Sports: “It’s an incredible moment. We weren’t at our fluid best but we were pushing a lot.
“After the goal we didn’t know whether to attack or stay on the ball. I didn’t know what advice to give.
“We knew we were very nearly there but to get it over the line like this with this club after 25 years – wow.
“It’s a serious football club, I knew the history but we have an incredible fanbase.
“Mark Robins had done an incredible job to get them back to where they were.
“To get automatic promotion as a non-parachute team with three games to go – it makes me feel emotional.
“They’re so great to work with, they deserve every second of celebrating for getting it done.
“We’ve fallen in love with the players and the fanbase and it’s right up there with what I’ve achieved.
“I’m very proud to be the manager of this club.”
