FORMER Coventry City boss Mark Robins has been appointed as the manager of the Sky Blues’ Championship rivals Stoke City.
Robins returns to the dugout with the Potters on a three-and-a-half-year deal after the Sky Blues sacked their former boss back in November.
The 55-year-old led Coventry to two promotions, from League Two to the Championship.
He also guided City to a Championship play-off final and FA Cup semi-final during his near eight-year tenure at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Coventry later appointed Frank Lampard as Robins’ successor after Rhys Carr managed the side on an interim basis.
The club’s owner and chairman Doug King held a fans forum following the decision to sack Robins with many Sky Blues supporters left stunned by the announcement.
King later admitted the decision to sack Robins was ‘hugely unpopular’ with the club’s supporters but explained his reasons behind the sacking at the fans forum.
Robins becomes Stoke’s third permanent manager of the season after the Potters parted ways with Steven Schumacher in September and Narcis Pelach in December.
Stoke are currently 18th in the Championship table, three points and three places below the Sky Blues.
He will take over from caretaker manager Ryan Shawcross following Stoke’s New Year’s Day clash against Burnley.
Robins is due to return to the CBS Arena with his new side on March 8.
