FRANK Lampard insists Coventry City’s title win is a moment for the supporters in an address to Sky Blues fans after lifting the Championship trophy.
Lampard spoke on the pitch after Coventry received and lifted the trophy following a 3-1 victory against Wrexham at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
The Sky Blues clinched the title in their previous home fixture against Portsmouth and marked the trophy lift with a stylish win against play-off chasing Wrexham.
The match marked Coventry’s final home game of the campaign as the Sky Blues moved onto 92 points and 93 goals for the season.
And Lampard thanked everyone connected to the club for their contribution towards Coventry’s success this term.
Lampard said: “The first thing I must say, you’ve [the fans] have said thanks to me, it’s not thanks to me, this is thanks to so many people.
“The first people I want to thank is this incredible group of players. We came to together 15 or 16 months ago and we’ve added players along the way.
“And everyone that has come in has added minutes, training or whether it’s in the dressing room, this group are an amazing bunch of lads, talented and together.
“I also want to thank every member of staff that works behind the scenes. They are as important [as the players] for the stuff they do behind the scenes, the support, the hours and the work.
“Can I also make a particular mention to the staff I work so closely with every day, Joe [Edwards] and Chris [Jones], we came in together.
“And I can’t forget super John Dempster, the set-piece guru. Set-piece again ole, ole!
“A massive thank you to Dean Austin who has recruited these brilliant players with a lot of graft and amazing experience and talent.
“And a thank you to Doug King, my wife and my two children, all the partners, parents and families of the players who support them and get them through the year.
“The biggest thank you, a football club is only as big as the people who support it.
“You’ve supported it, you’ve been down a lot, you’ve been to different stadiums because when you’re born this way you’re never going to change.
“You’ve gone through everything. One of the biggest pleasures we get as a group is giving you the joy of this moment, so this moment is yours.”
Coventry finish the season with a trip to Watford on Saturday, May 2 with kick-off at 12.30pm at Vicarage Road.
