FOOTBALL - Frank Lampard 'enjoying the moment' as Coventry City seek promotion against already-relegated Sheffield Wednesday

FRANK Lampard insists Coventry City are ‘enjoying the moment’ with the club able to secure promotion to the Premier League this weekend.

Coventry know a win against bottom-of-the table Sheffield Wednesday this weekend could be enough to see the Sky Blues end their 25-year exile from the top flight.

If Coventry win and both Middlesbrough and Millwall fail to win, the Sky Blues would seal promotion to the Premier League.

Middlesbrough host relegation-threatened Portsmouth while Millwall travel to resurgent West Bromwich Albion tonight.

However, Lampard remains focused on the task in front of his side this weekend with already-relegated Wednesday out to spoil any potential promotion party.

Lampard said: “We’re focused, we never get too far ahead of ourselves and that’s put is in a good position.

“People are excited and we’re enjoying the moment of where we are and we should do because of what the season has brought us so far.

“But there’s no illusions, we know there’s work to do, everyone will expect us to win this weekend, we’re very focused on the job at hand.

“I’ve been in this game quite a long time now and I understand nothing is done until it’s done.

“Finishing the job and being consistent right to the end is key. When you work hard, things can be enjoyable after that.”

Wednesday have endured a difficult season both on and off the pitch with the club deducted a total of 18 points for entering administration and for failing to meet payment obligations.

The Owls sit on minus five points with five matches left to play this season and recorded their only win of the campaign back in September.

However, Lampard praised Wednesday’s spirit and warned against any complacency from his side in light of Wednesday’s position in the league table.

Lampard added: “You could easily be drawn to the fact that they’re not winning so many games and there’s a tough situation around the football club.

“What’s really impressed me in watching them is how the manager is keeping his energy and the team are running and fighting for him regardless of results.

“That’s credit to them. Don’t expect Sheffield Wednesday to come and roll over or sit in a low block.

“They can be aggressive off the ball and can have transitions in the game. It’s only going to be a good game for us if we take it by the scruff of the neck.”

Coventry host Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, April 11 with kick-off at 12.30pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
