FRANK Lampard identified Coventry City’s tactical development as the most satisfying element of his year-long tenure in charge of the Sky Blues.

Lampard replaced Mark Robins in the Coventry Building Society Arena dugout one-year ago and has since taken the club to the top of the Championship table.

The Sky Blues boss oversaw a significant upturn in form last season and Coventry have maintained their momentum throughout the current campaign.

And Lampard praised the ability of his players to take on instructions to suit different types of games.

Lampard said: “We’ve found different ways to win games but still keeping the feeling of what we are as a team.

“We can do a lot of things and that’s a tactical development as a team that we should be proud of.

“We want to be an exciting team with a lot of energy and quality used in the right way.

“In any job, it always starts with people and this group have a lot of the right intentions.

“It’s only the base but it’s crucial to any team that wants success to have spirit and that togetherness.

“Sometimes it’s quite easy just to keep pushing that along. It’s a real strength of ours.”

Coventry host Charlton Athletic this weekend with the Sky Blues 10 points clear at the Championship’s summit.

Charlton head into the fixture off the back of heavy defeats against Southampton and Stoke City.

And Lampard is expecting a reaction from the Addicks who have lost their last three league matches.

Lampard added: “They press man-to-man and press up the pitch. That’s how they’ve been playing.

“You presume in this league always because, of all leagues, you can prepare for something and something completely different turns up.

“They’ve gone to Ipswich and won and got some big results. This week has been tough for them. That’s the Championship.

“They’re an aggressive off the ball team who will try and press with a lot of energy.”

Coventry host Charlton on Saturday, November 29 with kick-off at 3pm at the CBS Arena.
