FRANK Lampard expressed his delight after Coventry City secured a ‘really good’ point in a goalless draw away at play-off contenders Hull City.
The Sky Blues now need just four points from their remaining five league games to secure a dream return to the Premier League following a stalemate at the MKM Stadium.
Coventry and Hull played out a second stalemate this season following a goalless draw on the opening day of the campaign.
And Lampard praised his side’s performance as the Sky Blues battled to a hard-fought point in game of few chances.
Lampard said: “I loved [the performance]. It’s a clean sheet and a point which at this point is a really good one for us.
“The pitch was really difficult, it’s not conducive to how we want to play but we had to deal with it.
“Once we rode the early moments of the game, we grabbed it and started to play a little bit.
“In football you can’t have it all your own way. I loved the way the team dug in and did all the right things.
“We’ve scored a lot of goals this year and when you don’t score, you keep a clean sheet which we’ve managed to do.
“It’s about trying to win games in different ways to try and stay up there and be anywhere near where we are and we showed that side of us.”
Coventry lead the Championship table by 12 points from Ipswich Town who have two games in-hand.
And with the Premier League in their sights, Lampard admits the Sky Blues need to cut out any outside noise regarding the club’s promotion chances.
Lampard added: “It was a team effort. It was an interesting nil-nil, albeit not a beautiful game. We competed really well because they’re a well put together team.
“We’re all a bit greedy now. You want it all done and dusted so everyone can relax. That’s not football. But we’ve got five games to go now.
“To be in the position we’re in. We need to cut out the noise and just deal with Sheffield Wednesday in front of us.
“Everyone from the outside will expect us to win it. We have to put that to the side and approach the game with a real professionalism.
“It might not get us absolutely over the line but we all know it makes us a lot closer.”
Coventry are next in action against already-relegated Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, April 11 with kick-off at 12.30pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
