FRANK Lampard praised the Coventry City supporters after breaking the league attendance record during his side’s win against West Bromwich Albion.
The Sky Blues cruised to a 2-0 victory against the Baggies courtesy of goals from Jack Rudoni and Matt Grimes at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
And a CBS Arena league record 31,167 spectators watched on much to the delight of Sky Blues head coach Lampard.
Lampard said: “Brilliant, thank you very much to everyone turning out and we knew of that before the game.
“The fans have been amazing since I’ve been here and before, I understand what this club is all about and the fan base and how they come here and support us.
“They are obviously seeing something in the team and there’s a connection between the players and what they’re giving on the pitch and what they feel and when you’re like that is when you’re at your strongest.”
Coventry broke the deadlock after just six minutes when Rudoni drilled a first time shot past Josh Griffiths from Haji Wright’s low ball in from the left.
The Sky Blues doubled their lead three minutes after half time when Grimes robbed John Swift of possession inside the West Brom penalty area before coolly finishing past Griffiths.
And West Brom then had Callum Styles sent off on 51 minutes after he picked up a second yellow card after pulling back Tatsuhiro Sakamoto as he attempted to break free down the right.
The result leaves City three points clear of the chasing pack in the race for a Championship play-off place.
And Lampard could not fault his side’s performance and praised the work ethic of his players.
Lampard added: “It was fantastic from the players, all of them.
“The first half was one of the best 45 minutes I’ve seen been here, because of the level of the opposition, the work ethic and the organisation of the team.
“Things we spoke and work on pre-game, they delivered, playing against a very good opponent and winning, I’d say comfortably in a tough match until the end, but we did everything we needed to, to win it well.”
Coventry are next in action against Plymouth Argyle on Monday, April 21 with kick-off at 3pm at Home Park.
