FRANK Lampard praised the impact of Raphael Borges Rodrigues after the winger impressed in Coventry City’s Carabao Cup win against Luton Town.
Rodrigues played a key role in City’s winner as he found Haji Wright in the box who then set up Ellis Simms for the game’s only goal at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
And Lampard felt the 21-year-old took his chance after the Sky Blues boss handed the Australia under-23 international his first start for the club.
Lampard said: “He did well.
“I think there were some good performances from different players and I think when you make that many changes, it’s a nice opportunity for players to come in a show what they can do.
“Rapha had been injured for quite a while [when I came in last year] and had those sort of problems and it’s harder to give opportunities like this and I think he took it really well.
“So, it’s very good for him to show that he can compete and give us something at this level of game.
“He’s got talent and he’s a young player who’s obviously come from Australia and hadn’t played many games.
“He’s not had a usual sort of football upbringing that we have over here.
“I think him learning that side in terms of in training has been really good and I think he’s been very attentive and trained really well this pre-season.”
Coventry are next in action against Derby County on Saturday, August 16 with kick-off at 12.30pm at Pride Park.
