FOOTBALL - Frank Lampard staying positive ahead of Coventry City's clash with Hull City this weekend

FRANK Lampard is staying positive ahead of Coventry City’s clash with bottom club Hull City this weekend.

The Sky Blues lost 2-0 away at West Bromwich Albion in midweek as Lampard tasted defeat for the first time as City boss.

And Lampard admits it will take time for him and his staff to make changes to Coventry’s style of play ahead of hosting the league’s bottom side.

Lampard said: “There were some good and some bits [against West Brom] we can improve for sure.

“No feeling of negativity, we’re being positive and it’s a quick turnaround for Hull, so we have to focus on those good bits, continue with them and also correct some things about our game.

“The difficult thing for us is that we’re coming in as new staff, so we’re trying to make impacts and make relevant changes that will take time, that’s the reality.

“We prioritise the game in front of us, whilst trying to improve things that we want to do regularly, that’s the work really.”

Coventry currently sit 16th in the Championship table, four points above the relegation zone.

And Lampard is targeting consistency over the coming weeks having started his reign as Sky Blues boss with one draw, one win and one defeat.

Lampard added: “We do deserve to be where we are, that’s the table and in this league more than any other, but in my opinion, the table means nothing.

“You only have to look at the results every matchday and you see ones that completely surprise you, with teams at the bottom beating teams at the top, it is irregular in that sense.

“Consistency is a challenge and it’s probably a challenge for most teams in this league and the better teams overcome that and it’s not an easy thing, it’s easy to talk about but the only thing that brings that is good work, constant work and a good feeling within the group.

“Getting those results isn’t even worth talking about until you can actually show that consistency that which then we hope produces those results.”

This weekend’s opponents Hull sit bottom of the table and recently appointed former Reading boss Ruben Selles as the club’s new head coach.

Hull have failed to win any of their last 12 league matches and last tasted victory in the Championship at the start of October.

Coventry host Hull on Saturday, December 14 with kick-off at 12.30pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
