FOOTBALL - Frank Lampard stresses need to keep 'good feeling' around Coventry City following Watford win

FRANK Lampard stressed the need for his Coventry City players to keep the ‘good feeling’ around the group following victory against Watford.

A brace from Victor Torp inspired the Sky Blues to a 2-1 win at the Coventry Building Society Arena despite Liam Kitching putting through his own net late on.

And Lampard warned the Sky Blues must guard against complacency after securing a third straight victory in the league.

Lampard said: “Great work ethic and collective spirit from the players and there is a real good feeling around the group at the moment and it’s important we keep that.

“It’s easy when you’re winning to keep that feeling, so we need to guard against any complacency and carry on with the unity that we have at the moment.

“They’re a really good group and I really enjoy working with them and they want to win, learn, train, everything you want, and it’s been a real pleasure for me to be part of.

“Any team that has any success must have that as a base line and at the minute we’ve got that.

“We’ve had to change system, players have come in that weren’t in the team and now they’re in the team because of the way they’re playing and training, they’re in a good place.”

Coventry broke the deadlock on 32 minutes when Torp stole in to volley Jack Rudoni’s cross from the right into the bottom left corner from six-yards out.

And City doubled their lead in style on 75 minutes as Torp lashed an unstoppable free-kick past Jonathan Bond goal from a central position 25-yards from goal.

However, Watford halved the deficit eight minutes from time when Moussa Sissoko’s low shot deflected off Kitching and crept into the bottom left corner.

Victory lifted the Sky Blues into the top half of the Championship table for the first time since August.

And while Lampard hopes City can continue their fine run of form, he warned that momentum can change quickly in football.

Lampard added: “It’s good to feel that and it’s nice to look at the table but it’s more important that we concentrate on the next game and understand what’s got us into that position this week and winning three games.

“If we can take that forward, then we will have a chance to keep progressing.

“It’s a dangerous word [momentum] because it’s something we have to continue and football momentum can change very quickly.

“We’ve worked hard to get some form of momentum, and we have to continue the work to keep it.”

Coventry are next in action against Swansea City on Saturday, February 1 with kick-off at 3pm at the Swansea.com Stadium.
