FRANK Lampard insists Coventry City must guard against any complacency when the Sky Blues return to the pitch against Blackburn Rovers.
The Sky Blues return from the international break top of the Championship table and unbeaten in their first nine league matches.
And Coventry head into this weekend’s fixture off the back of three straight victories which saw Lampard’s side score 12 goals.
However, Lampard anticipates a tricky test against Rovers with so much expectation on his side to continue their strong start.
Lampard said: “Blackburn are a difficult opponent. We’ve been going well and everyone expects us to continue to go well.
“We need to be the ones that guard against that and say ‘what does it take to keep going well?’
“I feel we have room to improve still, we definitely have, so we need to keep going.
“The unbeaten thing is nice, I’m not so concerned with that, but performance-wise and feeling-wise it’s been great.
“We have to make sure we guard against any complacency if we want to be the best and continue this form.”
The division’s top scorer, Haji Wright, continued his fine form in front of goal during the international break with a brace for the United States of America.
And Lampard hopes Wright will be returning to the Sky Blues with even more confidence.
Lampard added: “It’s great for Haji to score his two goals. Sometimes you get what you deserve.
“Haji’s been training well, really positive, goes back into the squad and shows what he can do.
“He’s feeling good, the issue with Haji is he’s had a 10-hour flight but he’s in good spiritis.
“It’s good and bad when players go internationally, you’re very happy for them individually, it’s great recognition.
“But you’re also protective of them wanting to come back and they’re all back now.”
Coventry host Blackburn on Saturday, October 18 with kick-off at 3pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
