HAJI Wright insists points are all that matter despite scoring the winner in Coventry City’s M69 derby victory against Leicester City.
Wright ended a run of 14 games without a goal with a late strike against the Foxes after Ellis Simms had cancelled out Jordan James’ opener at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
The result keeps the Sky Blues six points clear of Middlesbrough at the top of the Championship table.
And Wright inists he and his teammates always believed they could turn the game around despite trailing at the break.
Wright said: “It feels good. It was a tough performance against a good side, they made it really hard for us in the first half.
“In the second half we were able to gain more control over the game and eventually come away with the three points.
“It was an important game for us. I just want to win. We’re top of the league, all that matters now is points and it feels good to win.
“We’re [always] going to believe in ourselves. We have a good squad and a good team.”
Wright now has nine league goals to his name this season after scoring in the Championship for the first time since October.
And the United States of America international never doubted his ability to put the ball in the net despite a difficult run in front of goal.
Wright added: “It happens [going on a run without scoring]. It’s not like we’re playing against nobody. There are people on the pitch trying to stop us and sometimes it works.
“It was a great second half from the team. We played with more energy, on the front foot and a lot going forward and defended really well.
“We wanted to start the second half quickly and it was a great goal to start the half with and we just kept going from there.
“It’s hard [for visiting teams] to come here and find a way out when we’re playing on the front foot and locking them in attack after attack.”
Coventry are next in action against Millwall on Tuesday, January 20 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the CBS Arena.
