GUSTAVO Hamer’s screamer rescued a point for Coventry City and halted the Sky Blues five-game losing run in all competitions as they battled to a 2-2 draw with Luton Town.
The Brazilian midfielder produced a trademark strike from distance to haul City level after Viktor Gyokeres had earlier equalised with Carlton Morris netting twice for Town at Kenilworth Road.
Coventry remain bottom of the Sky Bet Championship table with two points from their opening six matches.
And Coventry should have taken an early lead when Gyokeres was played in behind the Luton defence by Matty Godden only to scuff his shot wide of the post when one-on-one with Town goalkeeper Ethan Horvath.
Luton made the most of that reprieve when Morris’s fierce shot proved too powerful for Ben Wilson on four minutes after Fankaty Dabo failed to deal with a ball in from the right.
However, Coventry drew level on 11 minutes when Gyokeres won a foot race to a loose ball before firing into the bottom right corner from Ben Sheaf’s sublime pass.
And the early drama continued when Morris restored Luton’s lead on 15 minutes with a cool finish into the bottom right corner from Harry Cornick’s through ball.
The Sky Blues equalised for a second time on 61 minutes when Hamer unleashed a stunning curling effort into the top right corner from 25-yards out.
Chances were few and far between thereafter as City were forced to settle for a point on the road still awaiting a first win of the season.
Coventry are next in action away at Birmingham City on Saturday, September 17 with kick-off at 3pm at St. Andrew’s.
