COVENTRY City interim manager Rhys Carr insists ‘the focus is on the football’ ahead of a tough test against Sheffield United this weekend.

The Sky Blues host the Blades in their first home match since the club sacked Mark Robins earlier this month.

Carr remains in interim charge at the Coventry Building Society Arena with Coventry yet to replace former boss Robins.

Sky Sports News reported the club were in ‘advanced talks’ with Frank Lampard regarding the managerial vacancy earlier this week.

However, Carr insists the Sky Blues are solely focused on beating Sheffield United this weekend. The club sit one point above the Championship relegation zone.

Carr said: “I’m taking it day by day. I keep using that phrase but that’s where we are, and we will continue to do the best we can.

“The focus is on the football and that’s why we are all here and why we are paid as employees of the football club, the focus is this football club.

“We all want to win, every single person in this building, we want to win and that’s where all our focus is and has to be.

“Every game is a test. You can’t look at any game in this league or any league and think it might be this or might be that you have to go in with 100 per cent commitment with the ball and without the ball and in transitions.

“It’s a good test and it’s one we’re looking forward to.”

Former City favourites Gustavo Hamer and Callum O’Hare could both feature for the Blades.

The pair are set to make their first return to the CBS Arena since departing the club over the last couple of seasons.

Coventry host Sheffield United on Saturday, November 23 with kick-off at 12.30pm at the CBS Arena.
