JAKE Bidwell wants to set an example to Coventry City’s younger players after committing his future to the club.
Bidwell played the full 90 minutes as the Sky Blues claimed a third successive league win against Watford at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
The defender signed a new deal to remain at the CBS Arena until the summer of 2027 earlier this month.
Bidwell said: “I am delighted with that and I am delighted to get it done.
“I said at the start of the season, I would like to stay as long as there is a role for me, as long as I am contributing.
“I am delighted to get it done and hopefully we can achieve good things in the next two-and-a-half years.
“It is funny how football changes isn’t it. I just come in and get my head down every day, work as hard as I can and try and contribute to the team.
“I try to set an example being one of the elder players now, so yeah I delighted I am here, hopefully we keep going.”
A brace from Victor Torp, including a stunning free-kick, put the Sky Blues in command against the Hornets before Liam Kitching put through his own net late on.
City have conceded just four goals in their last seven matches and Bidwell praised the impact head coach Frank Lampard has had on the club’s defensive record
Bidwell added: “We have done a lot of work on the training ground since the head coach has come in. Just little details and little tweaks here and there has massively helped us.
“Everyone is on the same page with it, which obviously you need from front to back.
“We were a bit unfortunate with the own goal but I think we have doubled our clean sheets since the manager has been here.
“If we are going to keep climbing the table then that is something we need to carry on with.”
Coventry are next in action against Swansea City on Saturday, February 1 with kick-off at 3pm at the Swansea.com Stadium.
