JAMIE Paterson wants to make a difference on the pitch with the forward in line to make his Coventry City debut this weekend.
Paterson joined the Sky Blues as a free agent prior to City’s victory against Sheffield Wednesday last time out.
And the 33-year-old Coventry fan can not wait to make his first appearance for the Sky Blues with City hosting Preston North End this weekend.
Paterson said: “I’m excited. Obviously, I want to play and make a difference on the pitch.
“I’m buzzing to be here; it’s a massive thing for me. I can’t wait to show what I can do on the pitch
“I’m a Coventry fan and there’s a thing about that as well, but I’m hoping I can contribute on the pitch and change the game or whatever’s needed from me, but if I don’t play and we get the three points, it’s still a good day.
“Just to be involved in the squad at the CBS Arena, where I had a season ticket and if I can play, then that’s just a bonus.
“I grew up in Henley Green, then Walsgrave and Wyken and that area of Coventry is just full of Coventry fans, especially Wyken, that’s the area I grew up when I was a little bit older and everyone’s a Coventry fan.
“My mum’s neighbour is a Coventry fan, the one across the road is a Coventry fan, it’s a bit mad to think I’ve come from there to get all the way to playing for Coventry.”
The Coventry-born forward hopes he can contribute to a successful season for the Sky Blues.
And Paterson admits he would likely jump into the crowd if he were to score the winning goal in front of the Sky Blue army.
Paterson added: “I’m looking at it as if everything’s made to be and it’s come full circle and I’m hoping it’s one of those moments where we go and get in the play-offs and get to the final and then get to the Premier League and hopefully, I have some part to play in that, what more could you want.
“I’ve never ever in my career made a celebration to do, I’m not really one of those that’s going to do some dance, unless something happens that’s quite funny then we will do it.
“I think if I scored it would be no thought process, I’d probably jump into the corner or something, I would be going straight to there and then from that point I don’t know.
“Hopefully I haven’t already been booked because I wouldn’t want to get sent off, but then you can’t be running to the corner if it’s not the winner.”
Coventry host Preston on Saturday, February 22 with kick-off at 3pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
