FOOTBALL - Jay Dasilva admits Coventry City's play-off fate is down to the players

JAY Dasilva admits it is down to the players as to whether or not Coventry City finish in the play-off places this season.

The Sky Blues produced a below-par display in a 3-1 defeat at bottom club Plymouth Argyle at Home Park on Easter Monday.

However, Coventry remain sixth in the Championship table after results elsewhere went in their favour.

And Dasilva insists the Sky Blues must right the wrongs of their defeat at Plymouth in their next outing.

Dasilva said: “We were all below par. Every one of us knows that. It wasn’t our best performance, and we just weren’t quite at it.

“At this stage of the season, it’s something we’re looking to put right next game. It was quite difficult to break them down, they sat and defended pretty well but I just feel that we weren’t quite at our best.

“Luckily, results went our way elsewhere, so we have another chance to put it right and make it up to the fans next week. Two big games now. It’s down to us.

“It’s hard to play against anyone every week in the Championship. Plymouth are fighting to stay in the league, and you can see how much it meant to them but it’s not really an excuse for us.

“I think we have to just worry about us and focus on us and make sure that we’re on our game to beat anyone.”

Despite the defeat, Dasilva praised the travelling Sky Blues supporters and believes Coventry have the best fans in the Championship.

Dasilva added: “We are going to have to learn and make sure we’re better. We have to make sure we’re ready for that test, make sure we are better and then go and get the three points.

“The fans once again, unbelievable travelling support, singing right to the end and giving us so much support.

“We have the best fans in the league. We love playing for them.

“They help us so much and we appreciate all the support that they give us and they support us right until the end.”

Coventry are next in action against Luton Town on Saturday, April 26 with kick-off at 12.30pm at Kenilworth Road.
