FOOTBALL - Joe Cole would love to see Coventry City head coach Frank Lampard become England manager

JOE Cole would love to see former Chelsea teammate and current Coventry City head coach Frank Lampard become England manager in the future.

Lampard and Cole played together at West Ham United, Chelsea and England, winning three Premier League titles, two FA Cup’s, the League Cup and Community Shield with the Blues.

Cole also spent the majority of the 2015/16 campaign with Coventry as he scored two goals in 22 appearances for the Sky Blues.

And the 43-year-old hopes to see Lampard become manager of England in the future.

Joe Cole was speaking exclusively to Paddy Power: “I would love to see him at England. I think that’s well within the realms of possibility.

“We’ve got him, Stevie G. Another one that people don’t talk about is Ashley Cole, he’s the assistant manager at the under-21s, and he’s done six years of a brilliant apprenticeship as an assistant.

“One day, he will take [a head coach] job somewhere, and we’ll see how he does, and I think he’ll be good as well. It is great to see these lads doing their thing.”

Lampard has taken Coventry to the top of the Championship table with the Sky Blues unbeaten in the league this season.

And Cole praised his former teammate’s mentality to return to excel in the dugout with the Sky Blues following difficult spells in charge of Everton and Chelsea.

Cole added: “One thing with Frank, what you’ve got to remember is he is a tough cookie. He can dig in mentally and physically [when he was] a player.

“Listen, the criticism would have stung for him, because he’s a winner. He wants to be successful. I always believed he could do it. I’m so happy for him that he’s going well at Coventry.

“He’s an example to any young managers out there – if it doesn’t go right, then drop down a level, you can do it again, you’ll find your way.

“The reality is he’s probably a better manager now than when Chelsea employed him before.

“Because of experience, now he’s managed to find a way. Frank would always have found a way. I’m pleased for him. I’m buzzing for him.”
