KAINE Kesler-Hayden feels he has to prove himself when on the pitch after scoring from the bench in Coventry City’s dominant win at Millwall.
Kesler-Hayden scored his first goal for the Sky Blues late on at the Den as Frank Lampard’s side cruised to a 4-0 victory.
The right-back has managed just 51 minutes in the league this season owing to injury.
And the 22-year-old admits he must take his chance when given an opportunity on the pitch.
Kesler-Hayden said: “It was crazy. I really enjoyed coming on and getting the minutes that I did.
“I’ve got to prove myself with the minutes that I get and help the team where I can.
“I’m absolutely delighted with the goal. To win four-nil away from home is a massive result.
“The second goal settled the game down a bit and to win four-nil is a massive result.
“It’s a tough place to come. I’m just glad we could carry on this unbeaten run.”
A brace from Haji Wright put Coventry in command before Ellis Simms sealed the points and Kesler-Hayden’s deflected strike completed the scoring late on.
And after Coventry stretched their unbeaten run to eight league matches, Kesler-Hayden insists the Sky Blues will only get better as the season goes on.
Kesler-Hayden added: “The team has got so many goals in it and so many people that can affect the game.
“If we want to get to where we want to get to, everyone has to play their part and do their bit.
“The fact [the forwards] are doing that [hard work off the ball] speaks loudly to us defenders.
“I could feel the togetherness straightway in pre-season. As the season goes on the bonds will only get stronger.
“We’ll become an even better team than we are now.”
Coventry are next in action against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, October 4 with kick-off at 12.30pm at Hillsborough.
