VIKTOR Gyokeres’ injury-time penalty rescued a point for Coventry City after the Sky Blues were held to a 2-2 draw with Rotherham United.
Gyokeres coolly rolled his spot kick down the middle of the goal after Gustavo Hamer had equalised earlier in the half at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
The result means Coventry sit 22nd in the Sky Bet Championship table and remain in the relegation zone on goal difference with two games in hand on the teams around them.
Mark Robins’ side conceded a goal for the first time in over three matches when Cohen Bramall opened the scoring for Rotherham on 43 minutes with a clinical finish that left Ben Wilson rooted to the spot.
The home side searched for a leveller and went close when Kasey Palmer’s driven effort from 20-yards out was well-saved by Viktor Johansson.
However, the Sky Blues eventually drew level on 76 minutes when Hamer won back possession and was slipped in by Palmer before slotting home in off the left-hand post for his second goal in as many games.
Parity was restored for all of three minutes when Rotherham midfielder Daniel Barlaser played a defence-splitting pass and Conor Washington finished at the second attempt from close range.
City refused to be beaten and were awarded a penalty in injury time when substitute Callum O’Hare exchanged passes with Palmer before he was tripped in the box by former Coventry man Richard Wood.
And Gyokeres showed nerves of steel to convert the resulting penalty down the middle of the goal as Johansson dived to his left.
Coventry are next in action at home to Blackpool on Saturday, October 29 with kick-off at 3pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
