RUUD van Nistelrooy is now the bookmakers favourite to replace Mark Robins as the next Coventry City manager.
The Dutchman (7/4 with Sky Bet) saw his odds slashed and is now the outright favourite to land the vacant manager’s job at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
The legendary striker confirmed his exit from Manchester United via a post on Instagram following a four-game spell as interim manager at Old Trafford.
He won three and drew one of his four matches in charge only for incoming Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim to decide against keeping van Nistelrooy at the club as part of his coaching staff.
The Dutchman spent one season in charge of Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven, winning both the Dutch Cup and Johan Cruyff Shield (Dutch Super Cup) during his only campaign at the helm in 2022/23.
He leads current England interim manager Lee Carsley (9/4) in the betting.
Carsley guided the Three Lions to a crucial 3-0 victory against Greece in the UEFA Nations League in his penultimate game in charge.
He takes charge of his final game as interim boss of England’s senior side on Sunday (November 17) against the Republic of Ireland at Wembley.
It remains to be seen whether Carsley will resume his role as England under-21s manager following the completion of the Nations League.
Carsley led the under-21s to European Championship glory in 2023.
Previous favourite Frank Lampard (5/2) has drifted in the betting.
The former Chelsea and England great has submitted his CV to the club as he targets a return to the dugout with the Sky Blues.
Lampard last managed Chelsea on a caretaker basis at the end of the 2022/23 campaign following a spell in charge of Everton.
The only other candidate who appears to be in the running is Wycombe Wanderers manager Matt Bloomfield (12/1).
Bloomfield has taken the Chairboys to the top of the League One table.
Coventry are seeking a new manager to replace former boss Robins who led the club to two promotions and an FA Cup semi-final during his near eight-year tenure.
