LUKE Woolfenden admits it has been a ‘different’ season to what he expected after joining Coventry City in the summer.
The defender returned to the Coventry side as the Sky Blues claimed a 2-0 win away at Bristol City at Ashton Gate last weekend.
Woolfenden has made just eight starts in the league for Coventry since his arrival from Ipswich Town owing largely to the form of Bobby Thomas and Liam Kitching.
However, while the defender admits he has found the lack of game time difficult, Woolfenden remains determined to help Coventry achieve promotion this season.
Woolfenden said: “It’s not about me, it’s about getting the club to where it should be.
“It’s been a different season to what I expected, it’s been difficult for me with a lack of game time.
“But it’s not about me, it’s about the club and just being ready to take that chance.”
Woolfenden lost his centre-back partner Joel Latibeaudiere to a red card moments before the break at Ashton Gate.
However, Woolfenden praised Coventry’s reaction to Latibeaudiere’s dismissal and felt the Sky Blues deserved to take the points.
Woolfenden added: “Mentality wise, you go down to 10-men, the next five minutes is so important.
“To not concede, see it through to half time and regroup and we didn’t just do that and hang on for the next five minutes.
“It was a great reaction to the red card, it’s easy to sit back and sink into it, but we still posed a threat and that’s where our goal came from.
“It was a game that changed every 10 minutes. On the whole, we dealt with their threat well.
“The red cards in both halves changes the flow of the game and it’s difficult to get back into a rhythm after that.
“With the boys we’ve got up front, even when we’re down to 10-men, we’ve got a lot of pace and power.
“Even with 10-men we still posed a threat, defended well, scored two good goals and were well worthy of the three points.”
Coventry are next in action against Preston North End on Wednesday, March 11 with kick-off at 8pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
