FOOTBALL - Mark Robins pleased with 'livewire' debutant Bassette in Oxford win

MARK Robins feels ‘livewire’ Norman Bassette has ‘everything about him’ after the teenager impressed on debut in Coventry City’s Carabao Cup win against Oxford United.

Bassette managed 63 minutes and created a good chance for Brandon Thomas-Asante, who later scored the winner, in the first half at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

And after the Sky Blues booked their place in the third round of the competition, Robins praised the 19-year-old’s performance following his arrival from French side Caen.

Robins said: “He was decent. It was a decent cameo start for him. He was unlucky not to score a goal.

“He’s a livewire, 19 years of age and he has everything about him.

Robins also handed club captain Ben Sheaf his first minutes of the season from the bench but admitted he wants more from his side in the coming weeks.

Robins added: “The changes we made were pretty good because that brought things to life. Ben Sheaf coming on was a big part of that and for him to get his first 20 minutes of the season is nice.

“There are things to work on and its early days in the season, but to be in the third round for the first time in 12 years is no mean feat.

“I was slightly disappointed with our lack of speed of movement and passing because you want to see an exciting game.

“I don’t want to sound too negative, but we clearly want more.”

Coventry are next in action against Norwich City on Saturday, August 31 with kick-off at 12.30pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
