MARK Robins is seeking more consistency from his side after Coventry City left it late to beat newly-promoted Oxford United in their first home game of the season.
The Sky Blues secured a dramatic first victory of the season as Haji Wright scored an injury time winner, after earlier opening the scoring, with Milan van Ewijk also on target at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
However, after Oxford twice pegged City back through goals from Ciaron Brown and Mark Harris, Robins wants to find consistency at both ends of the pitch.
Robins said: “We can drop ourselves in it that’s for sure, but I have to say if you’re going to come out on top what a game.
“There was attacking intent form both sides from the start. Certainly, when they got it, they countered against us pretty well, but we can’t be giving goals away like that if that’s the only downside.
“Some of the attacking play was unbelievable and we’ve made them have to defend really well and they have done that, and the goalkeeper has made some brilliant saves.
“We have to try and get some consistency as soon as we can, but I’m happy with the three points and the performance.”
And Robins heaped praise on match-winner Wright after the forward showed excellent composure in scoring the game’s decisive goal at the death.
Robins added: “The third goal right at the death was the perfect way to end the game for us, and we’ve had to work hard for it.
“He was really alive to the pass that went astray and had the presence of mind to go round the goalkeeper and finish it into an empty net.
“I’ve said it before this might be the year I have a heart attack that’s for sure.”
Coventry are next in action away at Bristol City on Saturday, August 24 with kick-off at 12.30pm at Ashton Gate.
