FOOTBALL - Matt Grimes feels Coventry City 'deserved slice of luck' after injury-time win against Stoke City

MATT Grimes feels Coventry City ‘deserved their slice of luck’ after the Sky Blues scored a late winner against Stoke City.

Grimes captained the Sky Blues to victory against the Potters with Haji Wright and Jack Rudoni on target for the home side at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Rudoni scored an injury-time winner for Coventry after Ben Gibson had equalised for the visitors against the run of play late in the first half.

And skipper Grimes believes Coventry’s dominance throughout the game meant they deserved a slice of luck in injury time.

Grimes said: “It was deserved. I think we played really well, especially in the first half.

“We were disappointed to concede the goal right before half time but we came out and did exactly the same at the start of the second half.

“We limited them to very little and created a fair amount of chances. We piled on as much pressure as we could.

“Towards the end it maybe looked like it wasn’t going to happen for us. It’s going to take everyone to get to where we want to get to this year.

“We deserved that slice of luck at the end.”

The Sky Blues have now won their last four league matches to move eight points clear at the top of the Championship table.

However, Grimes predicts plenty of twists and turns in the race for promotion in the remaining games of the campaign.

Grimes added: “You can see from the start of the season, we’re more than capable to string some wins together.

“We went through a tough period at Christmas for a number of reasons and came out the other side of it much stronger for that.

“There’s going to be a lot more twists and turns in the next 11 games.

“It’s a great position to be in but we know how fast the Championship can change.

“But we’ve got a bit of momentum and we just want to keep going with that.”

Coventry are next in action against Bristol City on Saturday, March 7 with kick-off at 3pm at Ashton Gate.
