MATT Grimes admits lifting the Championship trophy with Coventry City was something he had only dreamed of.
However, the midfielder’s dream became a reality when he raised the trophy at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Grimes held the trophy aloft following Coventry’s 3-1 win against Wrexham in the club’s final home game of the season.
And the Sky Blues captain insists the Coventry supporters deserve to cherish the memories created by the club this campaign.
Grimes said: “It was incredible [to lift the trophy]. It’s stuff you only dream of.
“You never think it’s going to happen to you. It’s just an unbelievable day. It’s just incredible to lift it.
“We’re just pleased we can make so many people happy, our families included, there’s so much that goes into it.
“Once we got over the line, it was just about becoming champions and now we just want to finish strongly.
“We wanted to sign off an incredible run of form at home in style and we did.
“The fans deserve it. The fans have been through so much.
“To give them this season of incredible memories, they deserve it after what they’ve been through.”
Grimes achieved promotion for the first time in his career after spending 10 seasons at Swansea City.
His arrival at the CBS Arena in January 2025 helped Coventry secure an unlikely play-off sport last term.
And Grimes captained Coventry to the Championship title this campaign to help the club return to the Premier League.
