RHYS Carr still has ‘plenty of belief’ in the Coventry City players despite suffering defeat for the first time as interim Sky Blues boss against Burnley.
City conceded twice after the break as goals from Jeremy Sarmiento and CJ Egan-Riley saw the Sky Blues taste defeat for the first time since the club sacked former boss Mark Robins earlier this month.
Carr admits Coventry needed to offer more of a threat in attack at Turf Moor but felt his side were on the wrong side of fine margins in Lancashire.
Carr said: “We would have liked to have offered more threat.
“In terms of suffering, we knew we would have to do that without the ball at times, but I thought the lads defended really well in the first half and were committed to stopping the ball going in our net.
“We went in at half-time and spoke about the spaces we wanted to exploit better in the second half, but goals change games and that’s what happened.
“We created chances but we were on the wrong side of those fine margins.
“I thought the lads looked together, committed and I still have plenty of belief in the players.”
Carr also praised his players for adapting to different formations during the course of the match at Turf Moor.
Carr added: “Credit to the players, we changed the formation a few times tonight and they were really receptive to that information.
“We felt like we had to do it out of possession, certainly in the first half because they had a spell where it was difficult for Tatsu and Victor to get across the pitch, so we made a small tweak which I thought improved things.
“Every game is important, just because the team is below us in the league doesn’t mean we can approach it any differently.
“We’ve approached every game as if we’re going to win it and we’ve approached it with the right information with and without the ball and we will do the same against Cardiff.”
Coventry are next in action against Cardiff City on Saturday, November 30 with kick-off at 3pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
