MARK Robins admits Coventry City were ‘second best to everything’ after the Sky Blues lost 3-0 away at relegation-threatened Birmingham City.
City suffered a damaging defeat in their pursuit of a play-off place as a Bobby Thomas own goal and further strikes from Ivan Sunjic and Jay Stansfield saw the Sky Blues lose ground on sixth-placed Norwich City.
And Coventry boss Robins felt his team did not respond well enough to falling behind at St Andrews as the Sky Blues chase a top-six finish.
Robins said: “We were second best to everything. When they’re fighting for their lives at the bottom of the division, you know it’s going to be a difficult game.
“When we’re trying to get into the play offs you expect a response, and we didn’t have enough of a response.
“We didn’t work hard enough, and I think that’s the least we’ve run in a game and that’s not good enough.
“I’m not looking for excuses, I’m looking for reasons for it but it’s going to take me some time to get through it because that performance wasn’t what we needed at this stage of the season or any stage.”
Coventry play Manchester United on Sunday, April 21 in the FA Cup semi-finals with kick-off at 3.30pm at Wembley.
