COVENTRY City manager Mark Robins and in-form midfielder Tatsuhiro Sakamoto have both earned nominations for the Championship’s monthly awards for December.
Sky Blues boss Robins guided City to three wins in December as the Sky Blues beat Birmingham City and Sheffield Wednesday at home and thrashed Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
City also played out draws with promotion hopefuls Southampton and Leeds United as well as Swansea City in their last game of 2023.
The club’s only defeat in December came at the start of the month away at high-flying Ipswich Town.
Enzo Maresca of Leicester City, Southampton’s Russell Martin and Danny Rohl of Sheffield Wednesday are the other nominees for the manager of the month award.
Japanese midfielder Sakamoto scored three goals and provided two assists in December becoming a key player in the Coventry side in the process.
Sakamoto set up Callum O’Hare’s winner against Birmingham before then teeing up Bobby Thomas to equalise in City’s draw with Leeds at Elland Road.
The 27-year-old found his goalscoring touch later in the month, netting the opener in Coventry’s win at Sunderland before scoring a brace to see off Sheffield Wednesday.
Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, Leicester forward Stephy Mavididi and Norwich City midfielder Kenny McLean are the other players in with a chance of claiming the player of the month award.
The winner of both the manager and player of the month awards will be announced on Friday, January 12.
