FOOTBALL - Robins believes Coventry City are starting to build confidence

MARK Robins believes Coventry City are beginning to show signs of ‘confidence’ after battling to a 1-1 draw at promotion-chasing Leeds United.

The Sky Blues came from behind to secure a point at Elland Road as Bobby Thomas’s header cancelled out Crysencio Summerville’s opener in the second half.

And City boss Robins feels results are starting to come his side’s way following a difficult start to the campaign.

Robins said: “You can see the confidence starting to come through.

“Some of the lads haven’t played much football recently because I’ve kept the same team to get that continuity and rhythm for them after the start we had.

“And although we were playing brilliant football the results weren’t there but they’re starting to come.

“You have to try and do things that make sense to the performance and give everyone a chance. You always have to be mindful of what we’re going to get from the performance.

“I’m really proud of everyone. When you come to a place like Leeds, in any normal circumstance it’s a difficult game, they’re a Premier League team with Premier League quality and pace.”

Sky Blues goalscorer Thomas echoed the thoughts of his manager and hopes City can extend their fine run of form over the festive period having lost just once in their last seven matches.

Thomas said: “It was just nice to score, I haven’t scored all season, so it was nice to get that weight off my shoulders and try and get a few more now.

“I think we started the season pretty slow, we were playing alright football, just not collecting the points that we needed, sometimes we might not play as well but collecting the points might be more important.

“The gaffer says we’re on a journey with the new players and we seem to be clicking a bit more and having a bit more structure we’re not shipping as many goals.

“We’re giving the lads more chances to score and they’re putting away a lot more. So fingers crossed we’re on the start of an upwards trajectory.”

Coventry travel to Sunderland on Saturday, December 23 with kick-off at 3pm at the Stadium of Light.
