MARK Robins admits fighting for a place at Wembley is a ‘big carrot’ for his players ahead of Coventry City’s FA Cup quarter-final against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Robins could become the first Sky Blues manager to take the club into the semi-finals of the competition since City famously lifted the trophy in 1987.
And Robins insists he and his squad know the magnitude of the task at hand against a Wolves side who have impressed in the Premier League under Gary O’Neil this season.
Robins said: “To be a part of this, to fight for a place at Wembley, is a big carrot for my players – but it also is for their players. They want to win the FA Cup, that is their aim.
“These occasions are separate to the Championship games and they are so often upsets.
“It would be nice to make history and we know the magnitude of the task. We will give it our best shot.
“They are so well coached and well-marshalled by a really good manager. They’re a top side who counter-attack really well.
“There will be a real expectation from our supporters, and from theirs, so it is not going to be an easy game at all.”
The Sky Blues thrashed non-league giant-killers Maidstone United 5-0 in the previous round with City appearing in their first FA Cup quarter-final since the 2008/09 season.
Wolves sit ninth in the Premier League table and beat Brighton and Hove Albion 1-0 to reach the last eight.
Coventry travel to Molineux on Saturday, March 16 with kick-off at 12.15pm.
