FOOTBALL - Robins reveals midfielder Allen out for six weeks ahead of Millwall test

MARK Robins has confirmed midfielder Jamie Allen will be out for six weeks after he suffered a fractured cheekbone in Coventry City’s FA Cup win against Sheffield Wednesday in midweek.

Allen sustained the injury late on in City’s 4-1 victory following a challenge by Wednesday defender Di’Shon Bernard.

And after undergoing surgery, Allen looks set to miss a number of key games as the Sky Blues prepare to take on Millwall this weekend.

Robins said: “We’ve lost Jamie Allen, and he will miss a period of time. He’s in for surgery today and that was a major disappointment, but when you lose one another, one gets an opportunity.

“He is a key player for us, as they all are so when players come in you expect them to make an impact and have an impact and they are doing that and that’s what you want.

“I’m told he will be out for six weeks. he will have some titanium platers put in his cheekbone to hold it all together and it sounds horrific, and it is horrific so he will be a while and it needs to heel, when that’s happened, he will be able to come back.”

Coventry saw their 12-match unbeaten run in all competitions come to an end away at Norwich City last time out.

And Robins is expecting another tough game against Millwall although the Lions have failed to win of their last four league matches.

Robins added: “I think we’ve been doing pretty well as everyone is aware, the only blip over the last 13 games was Norwich and we should have and probably could have come out with at least a point in the game, but it wasn’t to be.

“But we bounced back against Sheffield Wednesday in what turned out to be a decent cup game and progressed through into the next round.

“Hopefully we can take that mindset and performance into this weekend against Millwall.

“It’s a different game and another tough one against a team that are very aggressive and like to play on the front foot. They’ve added power and quality to their line-up, so it will be another game to look forward to.”

Coventry’s clash with Millwall takes place on Sunday, February 11 with kick-off at 12pm (midday) at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
