ELLIS Simms opened his Coventry City account with a brace as the Sky Blues secured a 3-1 victory at Queens Park Rangers to end their six-game winless run.

Simms struck twice in the space of 12 second-half minutes either side of Josh Eccles’ deflected effort while Kenneth Paal netted a late consolation for the home side at Loftus Road.

The result means Coventry sit 14th in the Championship table after nine matches.

QPR almost took the lead with the first meaningful chance of the game as Sky Blues goalkeeper Ben Wilson somehow tipped Lyndon Dykes’ near-post header around the post at full stretch.

Coventry went close early in the second half when Matty Godden’s flick-on sent Simms through on goal only for the striker to shoot straight at Rangers keeper Asmir Begovic.

However, Simms eventually broke the deadlock on 56 minutes, firing through the legs of Begovic from 10-yards out after Luis Binks headed Jay Dasilva’s free-kick into the striker’s path.

And City doubled their lead just four minutes later when Godden’s blocked effort fell kindly into the path of Eccles who saw his shot from 20-yards out deflect in off of Osman Kakay.

The Sky Blues wrapped up the points on 68 minutes as Simms finished high into the goal at the back post from Jamie Allen’s excellent low pass.

QPR scored a consolation goal in the final minute as Paal finished from Sinclair Armstrong’s cut-back.

Coventry are next in action at home to Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday, October 4 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
