COVENTRY City kept their play-off hopes alive after the Sky Blues came from two goals to draw with Watford on Easter Monday following a Good Friday stalemate at Swansea City.
Second-half goals from Matty Godden and Ben Sheaf rescued a point for the Sky Blues in a 2-2 draw against Watford as Mark Robins’ side produced a spirited comeback at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
That came after City were unable to find a way past Swansea in a goalless draw at the Swansea.com Stadium with Coventry ninth in the Championship table, three points outside of the play-off places.
The Sky Blues were punished for a slow start against Watford on six minutes as the Hornets took an early lead when Joao Pedro found the bottom right corner after he drove with the ball from just inside the Coventry half.
And the visitors doubled their lead in first-half injury time as Imran Louza drilled a shot into the bottom right corner at the second attempt after good work from Senegal international Ismaila Sarr.
However, City responded on 58 minutes when Godden curled a superb effort into the bottom right corner from the left side of the penalty area after he was played in down the left channel by Viktor Gyokeres.
And the Sky Blues equalised on 72 minutes when Sheaf powered the ball home from close range after Godden cleverly flicked Callum Doyle’s cross into the midfielder’s path.
Against Swansea, Gustavo Hamer and Harry Darling missed gilt-edged chances at either end whilst Sky Blues goalkeeper Ben Wilson kept a record-breaking 18th clean sheet of the season – more than any other City keeper has managed in a single campaign.
Coventry are next in action away at Queens Park Rangers on Saturday, April 15 with kick-off at 3pm at Loftus Road.
