MATTY Godden’s second-half goal rescued a point for Coventry City as the Sky Blues were held to a 1-1 draw by Hull City.
Godden levelled after Hull substitute Óscar Estupiñán opened the scoring early in the second half at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
The result means Coventry sit ninth in the Sky Bet Championship table, four points outside of the play-off places.
Coventry had the game’s first chance when the ball broke to Josh Eccles on the edge of the penalty area only for his effort to deflect into the arms of Hull goalkeeper Karl Darlow.
And the Sky Blues went close again soon after when Godden and Gustavo Hamer saw goalbound efforts blocked before the latter had a third attempt saved by Darlow.
Hamer was next to try his luck as Darlow pushed his free-kick from 30-yards out to safety with neither side able to carve out a clear cut chance in the first half.
However, Hull took the lead against the run of play on 52 minutes when the ball fell kindly at the feet of Estupiñán who curled a sensational effort into the top right corner via the aid of the post.
The Sky Blues came within a whisker of drawing level when Callum Doyle’s low effort from distance went inches past the post with Darlow at full stretch.
And the home side eventually equalised on 71 minutes when Godden bundled the ball home at the near post through the legs of Darlow after superb work from Viktor Gyokeres.
Coventry are next in action away at Wigan Athletic on Tuesday, March 14 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the DW Stadium.
